The CHILDLINE Collaborative Organization of Hamara Foundation has been functioning in Nair Hospital since 2006 to provide 24 hours telephonic emergency services for children in need of care and protection. The organization was the only organization in the country running two CHILDLINE projects (Free toll no. 1098) - Support and Collaborative for 4 years. So far (2006 to 2010) more than 6500 children have been provided with services of medical treatment, repatriation to native places, counseling, referral to shelter homes and rescue of child laborers and victims of child abuse through CHILDLINE Collaborative Organization. Programmes of outreach and awareness and open houses are conducted to create public awareness for Child Rights and CHILDLINE services.

The ten member team working in the Nair Hospital premises takes care of three zones with support from 20 police stations to deal with cases in South Mumbai. The City Helpline tackles issues related to education, begging, child labor and child abuse, and more such issues related to helpless children. When a case of a child received from CHILDLINE call centers immediate action is taken to rescue a child take his/her details, medical checkup of the child and guide the child to appropriate welfare center on the case by case basis.

When
should you call 1098 (CHILDLINE)

The CHILDLINE often faces issues like receiving fake calls, calls where the caller does not provide complete or enough information about the child or location, legal issues, etc but they work tirelessly to ensure that every child requiring help is attended to and finds its rightful place right from his/her rescue till the child is returned home or placed in a safe environment.
